It has been over two years now after Pakistan banned Google’s video streaming service YouTube in the country, but the PML (N) government seems in no mood to lift the ban. Top officials in the Pakistan government have reportedly said YouTube will remain blocked in Pakistan ‘indefinitely’.
The matter was reviewed several times but the situation effectively remains the same,” Minister for information technology and telecommunication, Anusha Rehman told the Senate.
Another senior government official has told AFP that the government didn’t want to take any chances and wanted to make sure that after unblocking YouTube, no offensive content remains viewable in Pakistan.
It may be mentioned that YouTube was banned in Pakistan in September, 2012, after it hosted a movie “Innocence of Muslims” that had triggered protests all over the world especially in this Muslim majority country.
