There have been reports for past few weeks that the movie, which is based on the issue of substance abuse in Punjab, did not get censor board’s approval due to expletives and portrayal of drug use. The makers of Bollywood film “Udta Punjab” are said to have been asked by the revising committee of the Censor Board to remove all references to Punjab .“Udta Punjab”, a Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh starrer movie, delves into how the youth in Punjab have succumbed to drugs.
Earlier, there was buzz that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had refused a release certificate for the Abhishek Chaubey directed movie, but later the makers had clarified that no ban was imposed on it. On Monday, reports emerged that the Revising Committee of the CBFC has asked the makers to make 89 cuts.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has said there was never any truth in his upcoming film “Udta Punjab” being banned by the censor board and it was just a controversy stirred by media. The film is expected to release on June 17.
