Mary failed to make it into the Rio Olympics after losing in the world boxing championships that served as a qualifying event. In a last ditch attempt, the boxing federation of India is likely appeal for a wildcard entry for MC Mary Kom, India’s best known woman boxer.
London OLympics bronze medallist is still in with a chance to participate in this year’s Olympics. If a boxer doesn’t qualify for the Olympics, then the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) can exercise its right to grant a wildcard entry to a boxer, depending on his/her stature or past performances. Keeping in mind Mary Kom’s five world titles, the ad-hoc committee is confident that her credentials are worthy enough to get AIBA’s wild card.
So, it all depends on the the decision of AIBA, which is the last hope for Mary Kom and her fans. As a deserving candidate, she should get the decision in her favor; at least that is what the ad-hoc panel has been expecting.
