The West Bengal capital, Kolkata, has turned into India’s first WiFi enabled metro city. Reliance JIO who is providing the services was quoted by media saying, “We have laid cables along a 500-km stretch of the city. The major part of Kolkata has been covered and the work in other parts is in progress. We are aiming to bring the entire Kolkata Telephones area under our 4G coverage. It might take another eight months to a year to do the job,” he has said.
He said that the WiFi services would enable any WiFi device users to log on to the internet zone using a password provided. For Smartphone users, the services are available just a simple click away on the WiFi option.
Now New Delhi too is on its way to develop this facility soon. A free WiFi services in parts of Khan Market and Cannaught Place have been rolled out.
