Ishant Sharma Replaced By Mohit Sharma Before ICC World Cup 2015

India fast bowler Ishant Sharma was ruled out of the World Cup with a knee injury and will be replaced by Mohit Sharma in the defending champions’ inexperienced pace attack.

Ishant, who was in the squad for the recent Australian tour, did not play the 3rd Test. When the selectors asked the physio on the day of world cup team selection, i.e. 6th Jan, Nitin Patel assured of Ishant’s recovery in time.
However, Ishant did not play the 4th test, as a result of prolonged injury. Despite that, he was picked for the ODI against Australia, but the team was washed out. He couldn’t bowl a single ball in the ODI, and before the next game, he continued to declare himself as injured. That’s when the cat was out of the bag, and as a result he was dropped from the Indian WC squad.

Ishant missed the final test in the series against Australia in early January because of the knee injury he had sustained during the Boxing Day test and has not played since. Sources also confirmed, that the management was very unhappy with the manner the player’s injury woes were tried to be brushed under the carpet.

“The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 has approved Mohit Sharma as a replacement player for Ishant Sharma in India’s squad for the tournament,” the International Cricket Council said in a statement.
