According to a report from Bloomberg, Google, one of Uber’s largest investors, is set to become a competitor in the future. Uber faces an ever-growing cast of adversaries that includes litigious drivers, dubious regulators, hostile members of the press, and some well funded rivals. According to Bloomberg, the program is currently being tested by Google employees, although there’s no word on when it would launch publicly. But it poses a problem for both Google and Uber.
Google Ventures, the search giant’s venture capital arm, invested $258 million in Uber in August 2013. It was Google Ventures’ largest investment deal ever, and the company put more money into Uber’s next funding round less than a year later.
