At least 10 passengers were on Friday killed and more than 60 injured, some of them critically when the Bangalore-Ernakulam Inter City Express derailed near Anekal, about 45 kms away here.
Railway officials said about nine coaches have been derailed in the mishap that occurred between Anekal-Hosur on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border at around 7.40 AM.
Karnataka Government rushed 17 ambulances to the spot and launched rescue operations. The injured trapped in derailed bogies were being removed and rushed to hospitals in Bengaluru and nearby Hosur, sources said.
Meanwhile, Union Railway ministet Suresh Prabhu said that more than 70 passengers were injured in the accident that happened at 8am.
The derailed coaches include two AC chair cars and two non-AC chair cars, railway sources said.
They said the cause of the derailment was yet to be ascertained.
