The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) pathetic performance in the Delhi Assembly elections on Tuesday had its bearing on the festivities ahead of the wedding ceremony of party president Amit Shah’s son Jay in Ahmedabad. The organisers cancelled the bridegroom’s procession up to the venue.
Shah’s son Jay tied the knot with Rishita Patel at the sprawling YMCA International Centre. BJP patriarch L.K. Advani, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Transport Minister Nititn Gadkari and other central ministers, including J.P.Nadda, Dharmendra Pradhan, Piyush Goyal, Suresh Prabhu, Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Ananth Kumar attended the event.
The musicians were told to play it down, the firecrackers were kept aside, and the guests were asked to keep it quiet.Around 1,000 km away from the BJP HQ in New Delhi, the real impact of Tuesday’s rout was playing out at the YMCA Club in Ahmedabad — during the wedding of BJP chief Amit Shah’s son. What was expected to be a spectacular affair with a “grand musical entry” for the groom from the nearby Mahakali temple was instead a subdued afternoon — even Prime Minister Narendra Modi was absent.
